The North Star Strings grew out of a Family orchestra program started in the 1970’s to give family members the opportunity to play and perform together. Eventually the group divided and became two groups - the String Orchestra (for beginning string students) and the North Star Strings for Adults.
The North Star Strings welcomes adult string players of various skill levels who want to learn the fundamentals of ensemble playing in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Rehearsal time is spent working on music, sight-reading skills, and technique. Repertoire includes chamber music, Broadway show tunes, Renaissance, Celtic, and swing dance music. The North Star Strings performs in many venues during the year including performances in the Davis Concert Hall, Pioneer Home, and Denali Center as well as at weddings and social and community events.
Rehearsals are Saturdays, 10am to noon during the academic year. There are no auditions. Rehearsals for the 2006-07 season begin in September 2006. The annual membership fee is $120 which helps to cover the cost of the conductor and the purchase of music.
