The Fairbanks Youth Orchestras have been providing performance and educational opportunities for young musicians for 36 years. Three orchestras provide playing opportunities for musicians of all skill levels.
Fairbanks Youth String Orchestra: This all string group is for beginning musicians with some music reading skills. This group performs several times throughout the year in venues such as the Davis Concert Hall, Pioneer Home and Denali Center.
Fairbanks Youth Concert Orchestra: This group provides performance opportunities for intermediate musicians playing woodwind, brass, percussion and string instruments. This group performs several times throughout the year in venues such as the Davis Concert Hall, Pioneer Home and Denali Center. This group has also performed outreach concerts in Healy and Delta Junction.
Fairbanks Youth Symphony: This group provides performance opportunities for advanced players on all orchestral instruments. This group performs several concerts during the year including concerts in Davis Concert Hall, Pioneer Park (Friendship Day), Pioneer Home and Denali Center. This orchestra has done outreach concerts in neighboring communities and exchanges with the Anchorage Youth Symphony. The Fairbanks Youth Symphony performed in Germany in May of 2005 and hopes to continue touring.
