Great Northwest

The 18th Annual Concerto Competition produced by the Fairbanks Symphony Association and generously sponsored by Great Northwest, Inc. will be held in Davis Concert Hall on October 11 and 12, 2008.  This annual event affords outstanding young musicians the opportunity to perform in concert with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. A panel of two adjudicators will choose the winner in each category.

  • October 11:  Category A 11 years and under
                       Category B 12-15 years
  •  
  • October 12:  Category C 16-18 years
                       Category D UAF Full-time Student

Concerto Competition winners will perform their winning concerto on the Fairbanks Symphony Association's Design Alaska Family Holiday Celebration Concert on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 4pm. They will be required to be available for all rehearsals for the Holiday Concert scheduled by the Music Director. Rehearsals for the concert will be held on Tuesday evenings beginning in November, 2008. There will also be a Friday evening rehearsal on December 5 at 7pm, and a Saturday afternoon dress rehearsal on December 6 beginning at 2pm.
Participants must check in advance with the FSA librarian regarding the availability of orchestral parts for their chosen work. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 10am–5pm; please call 474-5734 to speak to the FSA librarian. Participants are also responsible for finding their own accompanist for the competition. Participants must have their concerto memorized.

The $35.00 entry fee is nonrefundable.  Entry forms and fees are due at the Symphony Office  by 5pm on September 26, 2008 – note: this is not a postmark deadline – forms and fees must physically be at the Symphony Office by 5pm September 26, 2008 – no exceptions.  Please call the Symphony Office with any questions regarding the competition.
